Lessons are the key component for both teachers and students to understand each other when they are not face-to-face. Lessons offer a simple name, organization, and a time-frame to a set of items from which a student learns and interacts. Lessons are a wrapper for everything that a student does in class. Some LMS don't have lessons, they use the term “modules” to mean the same thing as a lesson in LC. Some LMS don't have lessons or modules, they simply organize items based on a time-frame -- such as a weekly basis, or a bi-weekly basis -- or they organize items based on the focus the items. These types of systems are not well-suited to totally remote learning and are better suited as an augmentation to traditional in-class instruction.
