Learning Objects

The term “learning objects“ has been given a lot of attention recently. Trying to standardize on one definition of what it means to teach, or to learn, would have a lot of impact on the global e-learning ecosystem. What LC does for learning objects is it defines three major types of things that can be learning objects:

Content

Interactions
-
Assessments
All items in a classroom can be generalized into one of these three types of learning objects.
Content
Content provides the student with something to look at, read, study, or interact with. Some examples of content learning objects are:

Web pages
-
Audio recordings
-
Images (jpeg, gif, png, etc)
-
Desktop office documents (MS Word, Excel, etc)
Content objects are the main focus of many on-line LMS.
Interactions
Interactions encompass all activities between students and other students or students and teachers. Interactions include:

Assignments
-
Forums
-
Chat sessions
Assessments
Assessments are critical to evaluating a learner's progress through a lesson path. Assessments take the form of on-line tests in LC. There are a multiple of question types that can be added to an assessment.
